Part One: Income Tax Workshop for Independent Artists
Tax time brings on much gnashing of teeth in the local arts community and we have received numerous requests for this workshop Baker Tilly provides accounting services to several not-for-profit arts organizations in the city and some individual artists as well; they will partner on this workshop based on CARFAC’s Taxation and the Artist. A practical overview of tax returns and current CRA negotiations, the workshop will guide artists through career-specific processes and goals, bringing them up to date on current procedures. The goal of the program is to educate participating artists on efficient tax management so they can pay the lowest possible legal tax rate and better understand how the tax system works as a whole and how it affects artistic practice.
- Topics might include harmonized sales tax, RRSPs, legal entities, employment versus self-employment, expenses specific to self-employment, filing requirements, and record keeping.
- EC3 will provide event planning and all production and marketing/communication.
Part Two: Income Tax Workshop for Arts Organizations
CRA Regulations Workshop. Tax specialists will explain regulations regarding fundraising expenses and issuing charitable tax receipts to both individual and corporate sponsors.
