Peterborough, ON –The Board of Directors of the Electric City Culture Council (EC3) is very pleased to announce that 4 new community volunteers joined the EC3 Board of Directors at the 2018 AGM in December of this past year.

Visual artist Alex Bierk, LLF lawyer Emily Whetung MacInnes, writer and publisher Elisha Rubacha and Trent Radio’s Mauricio Interiano all bring a wealth of skills, knowledge, enthusiasm and experience to the work of this local not-for-profit cultural service organization.

This group will strengthen EC3’s connections to the music, visual arts, indigenous, writing, publishing and many other sectors of the wider community and enhance the Council’s work in leadership, advocacy, capacity building, arts awareness and professional development initiatives.

They join President and Chair Bill Kimball (Public Energy), Secretary-Treasurer Nadine Changfoot (Trent University), Vice Chair Kate Story (performing arts and writing), Randy Read (New Stages), and Sue McGregor Hunter (Peterborough Green-Up (retired)) on this very active board. EC3 would like to thank outgoing members Jon Lockyer and William Kingfisher for their service and outstanding contributions to the organization over the past two years. They will be joining EC3’s Advisory Group.

New Members’ Biographies

Mauricio A. Interiano
Mauricio A. Interiano studied International Development, Sociology & Cultural Studies at Trent University. Mauricio’s work is focused in Media, Communications and Community Development. He is currently the Community Outreach Development Manager at Trent Radio and the President and Chair of the Peterborough Independent Podcasters. Originally from Honduras, Mauricio describes himself as an activist, volunteer, writer, translator, radio host, and coffee addict.

Emily Whetung MacInnes
Emily is a descendant of the Whetung name as far back as its origins, and now practices law in the community where she was raised. She is a member of Curve Lake First Nation and a strong supporter of the arts. While Emily doesn’t see herself as having the same artistic talent as many of her family members, she sees the importance of protecting and encouraging all forms of art. Emily is a mother of 2 beautiful little boys and firmly believes that the world can always use more beautiful things.

Elisha May Rubacha
Elisha May Rubacha is the editor and designer of bird, buried press and has done live bookmaking installations for the Precarious Festival, Evans Contemporary, KEYBOARDS! and Fluff Stories. She was a 2018 finalist for Peterborough’s Outstanding Emerging Artist Award and shortlisted for the PRISM International Creative Non-fiction Contest (2016). Her work has been published by Apt. 9 Press, Electric City Magazine, Puddles of Sky Press, and Bywords, among others, with a publication from Exile forthcoming. She is currently working on a poetry manuscript inspired by Roberta Bondar, and a stage play that received support through the Alternating Currents program in 2017, and Theatre Trent in 2018. By day, Elisha is the Knowledge Transfer Specialist at Nourish, a local community food initiative.

Alex Bierk
Alex Bierk (b.1982, Peterborough, ON) has presented works on paper in exhibitions in Copenhagen, Paris and Stockholm. Alex has exhibited his paintings in group and solo exhibitions internationally as well as in numerous art fairs: UNTITLED (New York), Art Toronto, Scope (Miami), Papier 14 (Montreal) and Art Southampton. His work is held in the collections of the Royal Bank of Canada, TD Bank and the Art Gallery of Peterborough along with many private collections. In 2013, he was a finalist for the Kingston Prize, a national, biannual portrait competition, and is the recipient of grants from the Toronto and Ontario Arts Councils, as well as the Canada Council for the Arts. Bierk’s exhibitions have been featured in The Toronto Star and Canadian Art Magazine. Alex Bierk lives and works in Peterborough, Ontario.
